From classroom to catching a live steer, the Trevor Brazile and Patrick Smith Team Roping Clinic held here at the NRS Event Center in Decatur, Texas boasted a fun, surefire way for participants to “learn the ropes” of team roping! This beginners only introductory clinic, held October 11-13, was the ideal setting for those who are learning to ride and rope for the first time.
Sixteen participants teamed up and were mentored by World Champion team ropers, Trevor Brazile and Patrick Smith. The event started in the classroom where students learned some basic maneuvers, tactics, techniques, and fundamentals of heading and heeling. From there, the class quickly moved out to the arena for some ground work and finishes on horseback. Students were able to put their new knowledge to work with hands-on practice and received coaching as they roped sleds, tracked steers, practiced swing and delivery, polished up their horsemanship and positioning, and reviewed how to properly fit tack, saddle, and equipment. Some students even roped their first live steer!
In addition to their classroom and hands-on training, students were able to see live, in-action demos of tie-downs from Trevor himself. On the last day, prizes and a Student Jackpot were awarded. Trevor and Patrick both gave away Lone Star and Swagger Ropes to their two winners of the jack pot!
