The camp consisted of a 4-day, 3-night immersive learning experience! Trusted industry professionals shared their wisdom on everything from the minute details to the big picture. The cattle and kids arrived on Sunday, August 4th around 4 p.m. when they checked into camp. Participants were invited to stay in fully-furnished cabins on-site, so that they were simply steps away from their stalls.
On Monday, the showmen had a busy day ahead! The kids and clinicians hit the ground running at 7:30 a.m. and did not conclude until 7:30 p.m. In that time frame, daily hair care for cattle, beginner showmanship and other important skills were taught.
Tuesday was another action-packed 12 hour day. Each day started with morning chores and then transitioned to instruction; both showmanship and classroom teachings were held. Of course, it was not all work and no play– there was a break at 3:30 for games, fun and free time! Followed up by a pizza party that evening.
Last, but not least, the camp concluded on Wednesday with a practice show in the morning. The participants were broken into Junior, Intermediate, and Senior categories to resemble a live show. There were an abundance of different breeds of cattle represented, as well as kids of all ages and backgrounds. The combination of learning, fun, and friendship could not have ended the summer any more perfectly for these hard working stock show kids. We look forward to next year’s 1Eleven Camp!
