NRS Event Center recently hosted the 1Eleven Cattle Camp at the NRS Ranch headquarters in Decatur, Texas. The four-day day event, which took place August 5-8, 2018, was a hands-on camp specifically for youth involved with 4-H and FFA beef cattle projects.
Participants learned many valuable skills. From how to properly groom and stall their animals to how to get the most of their cattle in the show ring, kids left camp with a new understanding of what it means to exhibit cattle at major shows on an elite level.
This year’s event was sponsored by JG Cattle, Carr Cattle and Weaver Leather Livestock. Mentors Eric Drager, Jon Gevelinger, Trey Yates, Jay Carr and Cole Ridnour were present to help teach and offer advice to showmen.
“What we achieved surpassed our goals with the event,” said Marissa Drager of 1Eleven Cattle. “The atmosphere of the NRS Ranch allowed kids to create new friendships and have fun while also being solely responsible for their cattle during the stay.”
Teamwork, leadership, work ethic and camaraderie were on full display during the four day retreat.
